In room 8105, Head of the Theater Department Mrs. Orabuena and Vocal Director Mrs. Jensen evaluate students' performances as they audition to be in the cast of "Legally Blonde." The West High Theatre Department held auditions from Monday, Jan. 2 to Wednesday, Jan. 4, where students performed choreography, songs, and scenes. The room was filled with nerves because Play Production and others had spent a month preparing. In the end, students gave their best to showcase they were worthy for a role in "Legally Blonde."

Filipino Culture Club practices Tinikling, a traditional dance, to prepare for a highly anticipated performance at Multicultural Day. Every year, cultural clubs present traditional dances, clothing, and songs to showcase the diverse community that makes up West High. These performances require an abundance of preparation time, dedication, and effort, all to present a perfected show for students and staff.

Book Club board members Kyna Sarhaya (10), Isabella Chow (10), and Sue-Yan Chin (10) advertise the new club with bright posters and popular books lining the table. On September 14, 2022 Book Club attended Club Rush in hopes of encouraging students to join. President Morgan Tan (10) noted the importance of reading as it is “a lifelong hobby that makes you a more well rounded person.”

Mars Padi (12), Jake Nguyen (12), and Karen Kato(12) are all smiles with their free breakfast provided by West High. Many seniors were hesitant to attend since the event was so early in the morning. Paddi and their friends went since “it was talked about a lot by past upperclassmen friends.” In the end, Paddi felt it was their responsibility as a senior to make the most of their last year.

Yudai Shimizu (12), Kevin Han (12), Marina Soen (12), Elise Fauni (12), and Rakza Srivanitchayakun (12) enjoy themselves by playing an intense game of cards.

Sorina Yang (12), Tommy Nguyen (12), and Kayla Dadivas (12) warm up on a pile of blankets. Gathered together at the football field, the class of 2023 enjoyed the last taste of their highschool careers as they head towards their own paths in the future. Senior Sunrise is a meaningful event to many, including Nguyen, who found it bittersweet: “To me, it meant an opening into the last year of high school surrounded by all the people I grew up with.”

Filipino Culture Club (FCC) President Kayla Dadivas (12) speaks to a circle of attendees about new club events and board members. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022 was the first general FCC meeting, filled with authentic Filipino food, music, and important information for this year. Club members can look forward to new merch designs, and bonding with branches of FCC at other South bay schools. This month is especially important for the club since it is the Filipino American History Month. The board members took this opportunity to inform attendees of the importance of recognizing the history of Filipino-Americans who paved the path for future generations.

Musician and rapper Dominic Disloquez (12) reveals his most recent music release “teenagevampire777” featuring musician PolkaDot. Disloquez, who goes by the stage name Sh1nn Digital, dropped his first single “m3lanch0ly” with musician p0pstarcutie 4 months ago on SoundCloud. Since then he has expanded to more music platforms. On Friday, Oct.14, Disloquez will be performing in his first concert called “Friday the 14th'' alongside his fellow musicians.

The West High Warriors prepare to face off against the Peninsula Panthers. The night of September 9 was filled with cheers and roars from the audience during the Varsity football game. Fans at the edge of their seats watched the West Warriors fight hard in order to maintain their lead of 28-0 at halftime. In the end, the Warriors secured the win with a score of 28-21.
