Tough Battle Between the Warriors and Spartans

Lili Georges, Staff Writer

This past Wednesday, West High Girls Soccer played an away game at South, losing 2-3. The team, despite the loss, were proud of their fight against the tough rivals.

South was ready to compete straightaway, scoring the first goal of the game in the first two minutes. Taking no hits, West came back with the equalizer during the 11th minute, with freshman Kailey Park evening out the game at 1-1.

7 minutes later, South scored again, giving South the lead 1-2. By the second half, South made another goal, pushing West to perform better and tie up the game. Senior Kimmy Butland put the ball in the back of the net in the second half, with the final score 2-3.

Battling through the struggle against the Spartans, Jessica Goucher (11) says that even though the game resulted in a loss, she thinks, “West dominated the game, but let South score goals that we shouldn’t have.”

Kalie Slivkoff (11) felt that even though West lost, she thinks that the team played their best, “We played really well, and hopefully during our rematch against them we can come back stronger.”

West is scheduled to play a rematch against South on February 3rd, so make sure to stop by and give support to help them fight back against South. But in the meantime, girls soccer is playing Leuzinger on Friday, January 20th. Come out and support our CIF winning team!
