The National Honor Society provides help in many AP exams. Tutors were assigned to one subject to improve their tutees experience, providing advice based on previous experience in each class. “I recommend coming to these AP cram sessions because you can receive help from students who have previously and recently taken the test,” NHS board member Katie Ho (12) explained.

Nervous about upcoming AP exams? Well, look no further than West High’s very own AP Cram Sessions! Hosted by the National Honor Society (NHS), these study sessions provide all of the necessary help for upcoming test-takers to score well on their exams.

Mrs. Lee, the advisor for NHS, recommended that students attend these cram sessions because it “is not just reteaching the class but it is based on students’ learning experience,” making it unique from other study sessions. In addition, AP test-takers can foster peer connections between tutors and tutees. “The goal of AP Cram Session is to provide students on campus with guidance from fellow peers to have a deeper understanding of what to expect for an exam,” Mrs. Lee added. Because these tutors are fellow students and not teachers or other adults, students may be more willing and comfortable to attend one of these sessions.

NHS board member Katie Ho (12) elaborated on how these cram sessions work. Although all of the participating tutors, themselves members of NHS,  are versed in multiple subjects, NHS likes “to focus them in one class or one subject so they can help you to the best they can.” On top of that, tutors are required to “have [earned] a four or higher in that exam and have passed the class.”

Although the cram sessions have tutors in almost every subject, they don’t have tutors in AP US Government, Macroeconomics, or English Literature, historically senior-exclusive classes This year, however, AP Lit opened up to juniors. Ho hoped one day NHS “will have enough students to provide the service of AP.”

If you’re currently enrolled in an AP class and taking the exam, these AP Cram Sessions might be something to check out. Throughout the week of April 29, NHS will hold these sessions in room 4141 from 3:30-4:30 PM, starting with AP Bio and Chem on Monday, AP World and APUSH on Tuesday, AP Environmental Science and Physics on Wednesday, AP Calculus A/B and B/C on Thursday, and AP Lang on Friday.
