Spider-Man Webs the Box Office

  Look up into the sky, it’s Spider-Man! Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have collaborated once again to release the second film of The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy. Based off the popular comic series, Spider-Man fanatics began counting the days until the May 2nd release of The Amazing Spiderman 2. Although most fans know how the second film ends, the audiences were still excited to see how well the second film captured the thrilling action scenes. This time, Spider-Man encounters two new villains and missing pieces in solving the mystery of his parent’s deaths.

  In The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro; Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, and Peter Parker’s young love deepens. Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, is constantly reminded of the last words of Gwen Stacy’s father who passed away in the first movie. While fulfilling his duty of protecting his girlfriend and his Aunt May, Parker also must live up to his Spider-Man role. Katrina Uyehara (11) comments, “The entire film was very emotional and shared a special connection with every fan out there.” Throughout the film, viewers witness Spider-Man’s struggle with himself and his new powerful enemy, Electro, portrayed by Jaime Foxx. At the same time, Peter Parker’s long lost childhood friend Harry Osborn, played by Dane Dehann, creates conflicting decisions. Throughout the entire film, there is suspense, shock, and action keeping the audience on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.

   After just one weekend in the theaters, the film has grossed a whopping $92 million nation. With a variety of viewers from diehard fans to families on their night out, theaters were packed throughout the weekend. Sony Executive, Rory Bruer, commented on the movie’s success by saying, “It’s a terrific start here in the U.S. and the world result is no less than stunning.” Towards the end, the film left a suspense in the air for what is yet to come in the third movie. Lindsay Senechal (11) stated, “The way the director and producers produced a film that was close to exact to the comic book was awesome. It was well done and it didn’t seem as though you were sitting there for two hours.” In just a few weeks for Marvel, there will be another superhero release, X-Men: Days of Future Past. But until then, if you enjoy sci-fi action movies, The Amazing Spider-Man: Rise of Electro will not fail to impress.
