Eric Jerez

Eric Jerez, Staff Writer and Social Media Manager

Currently serving his first year as a staff writer and the social media manager for West Signals, Eric Jerez is thrilled to share his voice—spotlighting meaningful topics that are often overlooked through his thoughtfully crafted writing. As a triplet, Eric has perfected the skill of arguing over who’s the ‘original copy’; it’s also where he developed his passion for argumentative writing. He plays clarinet in the West High Marching Band and enjoys volleyball, along with spending time with his friends whenever he can. With that being said, this year Eric is taking on the challenge of running both a half marathon and a full marathon; he’ll be side by side with his best friend of nine years, Esha Chethikattil. Eric is enthusiastic towards serving his community and advocating for others through leadership programs like The ATTIC Advisory Committee, the California Association of Student Councils Government Affairs and Policy Committee, and many more.

A golden star balances between two bold red arrows labeled “Left” and “Right,” symbolizing the political spectrum that divides modern society. The image illustrated how centrism stood as a point of equilibrium—a place where reason, compromise, and open-mindedness met amid polarization and conflict.

Students wait nervously, wondering what kind of teacher they will meet and how challenging the class might be. Frankly, many high school students wished they had more information about their teachers. The tangled web of testing at West High School challenges students, yet retakes offer them a chance to demonstrate resilience. Throughout school years, many relied on retakes to bounce back from low scores and rebuild their confidence. Individuals noticed that students who took advantage of the policy often showed growth not only in grades but in perseverance. For those students, retakes became more than solely a second attempt; they became proof of determination and effort.
