Many people choose to take spring break to relax and reset, transitioning from the slog of the winter months to the chaos of testing season and the end of the year. Others, however, may take the break to catch up on work or get ahead. Either way, the break is a valuable week, so be sure to make the most of it!

Rest and Refresh: Warriors’ Spring Break Plans

Spring break comes at the perfect time in the school year: Months after winter break with few long weekends or special events to break up the monotony of endless school weeks. Right before testing season, it is also the perfect time to get ahead on review and studying. The break is also a great opportunity to catch up on miscellaneous tasks and partake in annual spring cleaning. So what are the Warriors up to this spring break?

Adi Gowrishankar (12) will be using the break to make money for college and take some much-needed time off: “I’m hopefully going to start a new job and just hang out with friends.” Spring break comes at the perfect time for one to start looking for a summer job, learn some new skills to build your resume, or begin working now and have a few months under their belt once the summer rush hits.

Working is not the only productive way to spend the break. Many people, such as Shubh Narayan (11), are taking this time to study for upcoming tests. Narayan specifically mentions that he will “study and review a lot for AP tests in May.” Many teachers also recommend this as it is best to start reviewing four to six weeks before the AP exam. On top of this, many juniors may be starting to think about the SAT or ACT, for it is not too early to start studying for those, as well. Though it might not be highly prioritized, state testing is also coming up for juniors in April, so they can take the break to brush up on old concepts and test-taking strategies.

Spring break should not only be for work, though. Play is just as important, if not more, as taking a break from the last few months’ grind is key to mental well-being. Narayan, for one, plans to “go to Disneyland with friends.”

Maya Nawachi (12) will be traveling a little further, to Virginia to visit her friends. “It’ll be really fun to just catch up and hang out with friends I don’t get to see too often anymore.” The timing of spring break provides for milder temperatures and lower crowds than traveling during winter or summer break. Even though the one-week time frame is a little shorter, it still should not be counted out for trips.

Whether going far or staying close to home, working or playing, spring break is a time to relax, refresh, and brace yourself for the whirlwind of the end of the year. Stay safe and have fun Warriors!
