Spring/Summer Essentials for 2026

As spring makes its way through the cold air of late winter, it’s time to switch to products and clothing better equipped for the warm weather. Here is a list of the best spring and summer essentials for 2026 from West High students.

Clothing

Warm weather marks a major turning point in our closets. Sweaters, jackets, wool, and corduroy are tucked away in our inaccessible top shelves to make room for pieces fit for the balmy air of spring and summer. Amidst the extreme heat of Southern California, it can be difficult to resist the temptation to dress casually and comfortably like Adam Sandler (a baggy T-shirt and basketball shorts), whose fashion is often dubbed as “Sandlecore.”  But staying fashionable in warmer weather isn’t impossible, and brings an opportunity to play with style.

Fashion enthusiast Esha Chethikattil (10) recommends Hollister, which sells a variety of trendy pieces for men and women.  Hollister is especially popular, featuring styles similar to their popular ones in the 2000s. Hollister’s unique silhouettes, fabrics, and fun summer patterns in their tops create a well-coordinated outfit even when it feels best to wear as little clothing as possible in the heat.

Footwear is also essential for staying cool in the summer breeze. With the balmy weather, many prefer to wear open-toed shoes. The most popular sandal options come from Rainbow Sandals, which feature leather sandals designed to support flat feet. Popular styles include Flirty Braidy, Luxury Leather, and The Sandpiper. For those who prefer a breathable closed-toe option, Eric Jerez (10) recommends the Crocs’ Classic Clog.

Skincare, Makeup, & Hair

As days get longer and humidity and sweat linger in the air, finding makeup products that can withstand the moisture becomes a struggle. To tackle this widespread issue, Ella Hunter (10) recommends Benetint, a lip and cheek stain that withstands the summer heat while providing a natural, matte, all-day look. For those who prefer a dewier finish, Riley Flaskerud (10) offers the Rhode Pocket Blush Buildable Hydrating Cream Blush. Unlike Benetint, Rhode’s blush offers a glowy finish and a creamy application.

Hair can also be affected by humidity: for some, it rises up in the air, and for others, it falls flat. Denser air often leads to hair losing volume and shifting out of place throughout the day. To address this, Rylan Fernandez (10) uses the BlackMask Hair Clay 2.0, which helps maintain volume.

Of course, with the heat and humidity comes the high UV; without proper protection, the risk of skin cancer increases. Staying protected from the sun’s natural radiation is vital, especially in the summer. Varshitha Rajesakaran (10) recommends the Innisfree Daily UV Defense sunscreen SPF 50+. With many spending long days at the beach under the blistering sun, this sunscreen provides lightweight and waterproof protection.

Thanks to these recommendations, Adam Sandler doesn’t have to make an appearance in this spring and summer’s outfit rotation. Stay cool, look great, and enjoy California’s warm weather with this list of curated clothing and products.
