On March 20, 2015, the highly-anticipated sequel to Divergent premiered at various theatres around the world. Insurgent is part two of the trilogy written by Veronica Roth, and has already accumulated over $100 million globally within the opening week. The plot of the series revolves around a futuristic society that is organized into different categories (factions) of humanity: Candor, Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, and Erudite. There are some citizens that belong to too many factions, they are called “Divergents.” Tris Prior, played by Shailene Woodley, is a Divergent who is seen as an ultimate threat to the peace of the remaining human race. So begins the string of challenges Tris and Four, played by Theo James, face to put a stop to the relentless Erudites and it’s leader, Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Winslet.

Compared to the first film, Insurgent features a lot more action and emotional scenes from Tris’ point of view. We, the audience, see her fears, her determination, and her will-power to end Jeanine’s obsession with “the perfect society” she pictures without Divergents. Shailene Woodley, along with costars James, Ansel Elgort, and Miles Teller, gave a captivating performance throughout the entire film. Lauren Mooney (11) said she “thought it was a really good movie. [Everyone] should watch it and read the books. It’s so addicting and you won’t want to put [the books] down.” Her, as well as other teens and movie critics, agree that Insurgent was a definite success.

Metacritic.com featured numerous positive comments about the film adapatation. “I really enjoyed this movie! It was full of action and I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Great special effects and I think all actors did an awesome job. Makes me want to see the next [movie].” Other users agreed that the film had “non-stop action, pretty dazzling special effects and solid acting by the young protagonists…”

The final book of the three book series,  Allegiant, will be turned into a two-part finale; Part One is expected to premiere on March 16 , 2016, followed by Part Two which is set to release on March 24, 2017. The Divergent trilogy has become a world-renowned book and movie series compared to Hunger Games and Maze Runner. Both films have received many positive reviews and leaves the reader or audience wanting more. All in all, if you’re looking for a new movie to obsess over, “Insurgent will not disappoint.”
