DIY: Pumpkin Spice Latte

Elise Ornelos

Pumpkin season has arrived and that can only mean one thing. Pumpkin spice lattes! What better way to start off Fall than some homemade pumpkin flavored drinks. Buying Starbucks on a regular basis can get pricey, but not to worry because there are tons of inexpensive recipes to make your own personalized latte. From the variety of recipes to choose from, this one, which can be found on Pinterest, is easy to make and tastes just as good as a seasonal $5 Starbucks drink.

Ingredients: For Pumpkin Spice Syrup

  • 1 cup of Water
  • 1 cup of Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Pumpkin Puree
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ tsp Ginger
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp Allspice

Directions:

Before you can make your perfect pumpkin spice latte you need to make the syrup that you’re gonna be adding to the coffee. To make the syrup, put the water and sugar in a small pot on medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely. After the sugar has dissolved, add the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. Changing up the measurements for each ingredient to suit your taste buds is definitely okay! If you prefer sweeter taste, leave out the allspice and ginger in order for a less spicy flavor. Let all the ingredients boil for about five minutes and be sure to stir frequently. Set the pot aside and let it cool completely.

Ingredients: Pumpkin Spice Latte

  • 2 tbsp Pumpkin Spice Syrup
  • 1 cup Black Coffee
  • ⅓ cup 2% Milk (or any milk of your choice)
  • Whipped Cream
  • Cinnamon or dark chocolate shavings to add on top

Directions:

While you are waiting for the syrup to cool, brew your coffee. Whichever coffee you choose is completely up to you! When the syrup is cooled, pour the coffee into a cup and add the syrup. For those with a sweet tooth, add more syrup to hit the spot. Heat up the milk and add it to your coffee. Mix it all together and your latte is complete.

You can now top it off with whipped cream to your desire. For some extra Fall flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon. Now that you’re done, you can cuddle up with your blanket, watch your favorite movie, and sip on your yummy pumpkin spice latte!
