Drake Peabody is SoCal Prep Legend Boys Athlete of the Week for leading the West High football team with help from his teammates to a 34-33 victory against Culver City on September 2nd.
Peabody, the quarterback of the West High warriors football team, is a Senior and has been playing football for all four years at West High.
“I’m honored to be the Athlete of the Week.
I put in a lot of hard work and it’s paid off. I’d like to thank my teammates and my coaches”, said Peabody (12).
Coach Holt commented on Drake Peabody winning Athlete of the Week and said, “I think it’s wonderful that Drake was voted as Player of the Week. He was the difference in the game against Culver City,”carrying the ball for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
“It’s nice that Drake received that honor, but some of his teammates helped Drake. The receivers made some great plays, but Drake did a lot of creative things on the field that we haven’t seen in awhile,” said Coach Holt.
Peabody passed for 265 yards, connecting with his receivers 20 times in 29 pass attempts, throwing one interception and two touchdowns, one to #6 Max Parish (11) and one to #27 Shane Cardenas (12).
Peabody is not only a great player, but a great teammate. “He’s always hard-working and encouraging,” Alec Froning (11) said, a safety and running back who plays alongside Peabody. “Whenever you’re doing bad, he’ll call out on it but in a friendly way. He’ll give you advice on how you can improve.”

In addition to winning Athlete of the Week, Peabody was also nominated for Play of the Week with his wild 49-yard run, zig-zagging through the Culver City defense that set up a West High touchdown.
