The West High Girls Basketball team did it again! For the second year in a row, the girls won the CIF Championships. On Saturday, March 7, 2015 they played against Troy at Azusa Pacific and won with a close score of 52-41.

The game lived up to the hype and gained intensity quarter by quarter. Troy was down by 32 points at the start of the 4th quarter and managed to score 21 points. Their effort was impressive, but didn’t live up to West’s constant flow of points. Bailey Kurahashi (12) said “We proved to everyone that we can actually do it! Not once, but twice.”

Throughout the year, they have learned the importance of teamwork. Playing as one flowing unit, rather than as individuals, has been the source of their success. The girls are excited about getting the chance to gain a greater title in the state competition that lies ahead for them.

Captain Kayla Sato (12) said, “Our win means that we get to keep playing together. We play together and we win together.” As captain she has led her team very far implying that teamwork is obviously important to her and it shows with every win.

Last year, the girls lost regionals so this year they are taking it very seriously. Kurahashi said, “We are so excited… this is a great opportunity to try and win it this year.” They have been working hard to keep up their status and even improve it.

They will have the chance to make their mark in the state competition tonight at 6:00p against Edison High School in Fresno, California.
