Warriors Dominate the Colts

The West High Warriors football team annihilated the Carson Colts at the away game last Thursday.

A few weeks ago, Matt Doty (12) said that Carson was one of our team’s “biggest competitors,” and this past week, the Warriors took them by storm. The team continued its winning streak by finishing the game with a final score of 40-19.

The team’s main strength was its big plays, rather than its capacity to efficiently move the ball. The Warrior’s defense, lead by John Girardini (11), Issac Fuentes (12), and Benton Shortridge (12) also remained an asset throughout the night, setting the Colts into a few weaker offensive plays.

West had the lead in the first quarter, putting 9 points on the board and leaving Carson with none.

Carson made a comeback in the second quarter, adding 13 points to their name. Cody Wissler (11) set Brett Oiji (12) up for a touchdown in the second quarter. West continued to play strong and scored another 11 points, totaling 20 -13 by halftime.

West pulled through the third quarter ahead of Carson, scoring 7 points while Carson scored only 6. Zac McGraw’s (12) reception of the ball set up Oiji for a 26-yard touchdown run. The third quarter ended with a score of 34-19.

In the final quarter of the game, West landed 13 points on the board while Carson scored no further points. McGraw and Joey Johnson (12) made a few picks that topped off the game before the quarter was even in its final stages.

West currently has a notable record of 5-0, with a strong possibility of an undefeated regular season. Their next game is against the Leuzinger Olympians on the 10th.
