Cross Country Finishes Strong

West High’s Cross Country finished its season on November 5, 2009 at the Redondo High Bay League meet. With each race, the athletes improved their already impressive stamina and endurance as they aimed to help their team win. Although there were not as many first place finishes as hoped, the Cross Country team displayed its potential for years to come; freshmen and sophomores ran times expected of varsity caliber members. Michael Rubio (11) stated, “In order to succeed, you have to put in effort that will show during the actual competition. Those who work hard will perform the best during races.”
Many runners are looking forward to improving their times and intensely practicing until they can achieve the best running times possible. Miles Blum (10) excitedly spoke, “I feel like next year’s team will have more success with the greater amount of experience and speed we gained this year. Everyone is competitive, so we are pushing each other to strive for the best possible results.” With so many motivated athletes, West’s Cross Country is looking forward to achieving its goal of constant improvement. The season has come to an end, but the tremendous amount of hard work and training has just begun.
