The one and only Whitney Houston.  Houston wrote many great hits like “I Will Always Love You” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” She also starred in many great movies like Sparkle and The Bodyguard.  Houston was found in her hotel bathtub. Later on it was found that she overdosed on cocaine. Precious Starks (10) believed that Whitney Houston “ [was] a successful human being, the greatest of all time.” Xia Rashid (12) stated, “Whitney Huston was one of the reasons I started singing. My mom always played a lot of her song when I was younger and I grew up seeing her in the news. I remember when she completely lost it. And I remember when she tried to come back and perform again. It was all so much! Yet her music made people believe in her!” Houston clearly impacted not only the music industry, but the lives of numerous fans and other musicians as well.

Another recent tragedy was Neil Armstrong, the first man to ever walk on the moon.  Armstrong planned many great missions, and received many awards. He partook in important space exploration missions such as “Gemini 8” and “Apollo 11.” He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award and Congressional Space Medal of Honor. Armstrong died in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 25, 2012, at the age of 82, due to blocked coronary arteries. Alexis Andrews (11) explained, “I knew that after he walked on the moon, he declined all other offers to go into space again, I also know that he became a professor at Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. I also know that he started out as a Test Pilot”. Andrews said “[it] probably would have to be the Apollo 11 mission seeing as it was such a large breakthrough for humanity. Armstrong will always be remembered as the first man to walk on the moon.  He will live long in our hearts and minds as an American hero and great contributor to the worlds of space exploration and science.
