Logan Legacy Comes to an End

Andrea Gomez, Staff Writer

The sci-fi and drama film Logan was released on March 3rd. The movie is rated R and is two hours and seventeen minutes long. The movie, in a nutshell, is about Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Caliban (Stephen Merchant) taking care of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) living in hiding until another mutant named Laura (Dafne Keen) come along and they have to travel to a certain place to escape from Pierce (Boyd Holbrook).

The appearance of Caliban was confusing to some fans, especially since in the 2016 movie X-Men: Apocalypse it was played by Tómas Lemarquis. The director James Mangold said, “It’s a funny, messy story of how so often these things are not as coordinated as everyone thinks.” He later then commented on Merchant, “I just wanted to see this particular energy that we wrote, so I cast for what we were looking for, and I love Stephen, I’m a huge fan of his.”

A student who has seen the movie, Aiden Phillips (10), commented, “He’s not really an interesting character but he ends up being really important to the story… We just don’t get any backstory as to why he’s there and how Logan found him.”

Jackman had to lose weight for the role, and ended up losing 10 pounds. Three days before the actual shooting, dehydrated himself, he stated, “You increase your water intake up to, like, 10 liters of water. What is that, three gallons of water a day? … Then you stop about 36 hours before you shoot but because you’ve drunk so much water you’re peeing all the time.

Keen, when interviewed by Eric Walkuski from Joblo, was asked what made her get into her role and act the way she acted in the movie, she responded with, “What [James Mangold] did say we could do is go to the zoo and see animals…I remember that we saw this bear that was trapped in this cage… I thought of the bear [for performance].”

A fan of Keen, Melissa Villagomez (11) commented on her strategy and performance as she said, “It worked for her very well, it’s unique she thought of something like that and followed through with it. She was an amazing actress and really convinced me of an angry child. She really got into it and kept me entertained the whole time”

It’s not too late to watch the movie, it is now playing and been playing at local movie theater, the AMC theater.
