After following the recent news about the Grammy Awards celebration, Ethan Je (10) believed that “Kendrick Lamar was the biggest winner of the entire show . . . he gained five trophies!” Lamar’s recent hit, “Not Like Us,” garnered a high reputation throughout the awards show and pop culture. Notably, the song reached two of the four most prestigious categories within the Grammys: Record and Song of the Year. Je remarked “Kendrick deserved it. I think his performance and his song made one of the largest impacts on the music industry.” With the song reaching over 1 billion streams on Spotify, the diss track has created large ripples within the music industry, giving Lamar the 2024 spotlight.
The awards ceremony also held powerful speeches, with the celebration leaving audience members encouraged for the future of the industry. After reviewing the awards ceremony, Shannone Uelkah Terte (12) felt “touched by Doechii’s powerful speech. . . I think the speeches are such a big testament to the artist’s journey.” Doechii, a musician who recently won a trophy for her album Alligator Bites Never Heal, left an inspirational message to her audience. Her album displayed her perseverance to venture past negative stereotypes and earn a Grammy Award. Though, Doechii’s achievement wasn’t the only compelling moment within the Grammys, with Terte explaining, “It was also amazing to see Sabrina Carpenter winning multiple awards. Her journey to finally making the Grammys was so inspirational.” With Carpenter starting her music career over a decade ago, her recent awards displayed the fruits of hard work, empowering others to reach their goals.
