James Gunn Rehired For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3
March 26, 2019
After 8 months of being fired from his film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, director and writer James Gunn has been rehired. After looking for a director to fill Gunn’s shoes and the cast threatening to quit, Disney and Marvel found that the only option was to reinstate the man who made Guardians.
Gunn’s controversial tweets from 2009 resurfaced with some pertaining to rape and pedophilia. At a point, the filmmaker even deleted his old tweets, but in July of 2018, right-winged reporters uncovered them and put it out there to turn the people and the media against Gunn.
The opinions of the fans of the series were highly reflected when a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Jaclyn Lacroix (11) was asked if Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok, would be a better choice than Gunn. She said, “I think it would be a good fit for him, it is a similar movie to Ragnarok, but I think Gunn would be better because he directed the other two.”
When the choice was made to fire Gunn from Guardians 3, there was an uproar from fans of the first two films and even the cast. After an open letter from the cast, which was signed by and endorsed by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper and many more, condemned the poor taste of the jokes but fully embraced the man.
Pratt put on his instagram “I would personally love to see him [James Gunn] reinstated to Volume 3.” however the moment that DC had a chance, they gunned for Gunn and had him made a deal stating that he was to direct the sequel of Suicide Squad.
After months of hearing nothing from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 scene, Marvel came out saying that they had rehired Gunn for the film; however, Gunn made it very clear that he would first finish his work on Suicide Squad 2.
A fan of Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy Daylen Almaraz (11) stated this about Gunn and Disney’s decision to reinstate him. “I am still very excited to see the movie. However I can understand why Disney would want to fire him. I think he has learned what he did was wrong, I for one was shocked after reading those tweets but we all make mistakes we are all human and I like to believe he has grown as an individual and understands what he did was wrong. I would not want anyone else to direct Guardians 3”
It is fairly safe to say that most fans of the Guardians of the Galaxy films are excited to see what Gunn will do with the franchise now that he is the director.
