Captain Marvel Soars in Popularity

The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) latest installment Captain Marvel hit the ground running on March 8th.

  The film centers around Vers (Captain Marvel), a superpowered warrior from an alien planet crash landing on Earth in the 1990’s, seeking to find answers about her past while fighting an intergalactic war.

  By Monday, March 11th, Captain Marvel already made roughly 455 million USD worldwide, making the second highest grossing debut for an M.C.U. film, trailing behind 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. It sits miles ahead of its current competing movies at the box office, with the second highest grossing movie of this week, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, pulling in 14.8 million USD.

  The movie’s reception with movie goers, fans, and critics has also pulled in high marks. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 80% and IGN handed it an 8.3/10.

  “It definitely stands out among the other MCU movies because it feels like own film and [Captain Marvel’s] own movie,” says Elijah Villongco (12), who saw the movie.

  For fan’s of the MCU, Captain Marvel serves as a precursor to the much anticipated Avengers: Endgame.

  With millions of dollars already made and positive reception from fans and critics, the success of Captain Marvel shows no end in sight.
