Chris Brown Released From Prison Over Rape Allegations
January 29, 2019
On Tuesday, January 22nd, singer Chris Brown and two other suspects (reported as Brown’s bodyguard and a friend) were arrested and detained by police in Paris over drug and rape allegations.
The 24-year-old victim accused Brown of assaulting her at La Crystal — a French nightclub — on the night of January 15th, then returning to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, where she claimed that she was raped.
Subsequently, the singer replied to the accusations on his Instagram, in all-caps, stating, “For my daughter and my family this is so disrespectful and is against my character and morals!!!!”
Brown was detained on Monday over the potential charges, but was shortly released on Tuesday free of charges. Following his release, the star’s lawyer, Raphael Chiche, stated that Brown has publicly declared his innocence and revealed his intention to sue for defamation.
Julia-Jane Yonga (10) reacted to the scandal saying, “I admire Chris Brown and love his music. However, it [is] such a shame to see celebrities as famous as him put themselves in these situations. Stars like Brown have such a wide audience and are admired by a lot of children, so they need to protect their image and be conscious of their actions.”
Furthermore, this is not Brown’s first violence conviction; the singer’s records show that he has had several past encounters with the law. In 2009, he received a community service order along with five years of probation for assaulting his then girlfriend, Rihanna, in his car. Later in 2016, he was arrested after being accused of threatening a woman with a gun. Similarly, he was released and the accusations were said by his lawyer to have been “demonstrably false.”
Kira Resnick Crook (10) expressed her opinion on Brown’s accusations saying, “This news is very disappointing for Brown’s supporters. Knowing that this is [not] his first violence conviction is even more disappointing. Fans constantly watch and look up to their star, and are always stunned by these scandals. Celebrities must always be aware of their significant impact and should never lose sight of their reputation.”
When asked to comment on Brown’s arrest, the US Embassy in Paris declined to do so. According to the prosecutor’s office, Brown, along with the other two suspects, were released from jail last Tuesday with no charges against any of them, but the investigation continues.
