Sweater Weather
November 13, 2014
Although it’s sad to see summer go, autumn is given a warm welcome after several weeks of intense heat in Southern California. There’s just something about fall that makes everyone feel at home. It’s the season where trees change color, when we get to wear silly costumes to trick or treat with friends, or where we gather with our families to enjoy an enormous turkey dinner. And while we say hello to another school year, we also greet some refreshing fall favorites.
One classic fall trend that will never go out of style is oversized sweaters. They’re comfortable and easy to coordinate with. Various prints have been popular among sweaters such as floral or Aztec. It’s a sure way to make a statement while staying cozy during the fall. As for shoes, ankle boots are the way to complete any autumn outfit. They can be paired with leggings, skinny jeans, skirts or dresses. They’re affordable and can make any outfit look and feel like fall. Maryam Quarishi (11) said, “My favorite go-to fall look is a sweater with skinny jeans and a scarf paired with some boots!”
Although summer beach waves are always a cute hairstyle to wear out, fall is a season where hair and makeup are important accessories to complete any outfit. Messy buns are always welcome for any season, and can definitely go great with the oversized sweater. The top hair and beauty trends for fall right now are braids, romantic waves, bold brows, and darker shades of lipstick and eyeshadow. Plum or burgundy lipstick are great fall colors and go perfectly with a slicked back pony tail. Gold eyeshadow not only makes eye color pop, it’s also a great color for the autumn season. Bethany Lozano (11) said she’d like to see more berry and nude colors incorporated in this season’s makeup. “I feel like it would tie the look and the face together to have lighter shades of blush and eyeshadow in contrast to the berry lips I’ve been seeing lately.”
Finally, what’s fall without some fun fall traditions? Besides the fact that Starbucks helps put us into the autumn spirit by changing their menu, high school football games, movies nights with friends, and having anything pumpkin are also some timeless fall activities. Carving pumpkins or helping out in the kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner are fall traditions that everyone will enjoy. Bonfires at the beach, cuddling up with a good book and a cup of tea, or having a Netflix marathon are popular ways teens celebrate fall nights. Ashley Corredor (11) comment about her favorite fall tradition with her family. “I love doing the turkey run, pumpkin carving, and Halloween.”
This season, everything is simple, comfortable and laid-back, which makes fall one of the most enjoyable seasons of the year. These fall activities and fashion trends make it seem so inviting and memorable.
