March 13, 2023
On Senior Night, Skyler Schultz (number 18 on the field) scored the only winning goal against the tough El Segundo Eagles. Despite starting the game off 0-0 in the first half and most of the second half, Schultz stepped up her game and brought home the win.
Playing soccer has been a strong passion of starter varsity captain Schultz since she was four. Being a senior this year and finishing her last year with West Soccer, her teammates revealed that Schultz has been an incredible person and player both on and off the field.
Schultz has spent her last four years as a varsity member of the West Girls Soccer team. Off-season, Schultz is currently playing for the soccer club, LA Surf. Schultz explained that her passion for soccer comes from “starting at such a young age,” claiming that she “kind of always had that passion for soccer, and it’s been one thing that [she] loves.”
Schultz continues to be a great friend both on and off the field. Schultz’s coach, Coach Youngdale, expressed that Schultz is “one of a kind . . . she’s a fighter, she goes all out and whatever we ask her, she does it.” Within Schultz’s role as team captain, Youngdale noted that “she’s really stepped it up this year and she isn’t afraid to bring the fight and doesn’t ever give up.” Youngdale added that “her grit and passion” makes her an outstanding player.
Marina McCamant (12), a close friend of Schultz, described her as a player who is “determined,” explaining that she “goes out there and gives it her best,” and that “she’s one of [their] best players and scores so many goals.” As a friend, McCamant expressed that “she’s always been so supportive in everything I do. . . she really inspires me to be myself on the field and is always telling me to get back on my feet and is a great captain.”
