Warrior Basketball Run Over Saxons

The West High Boys’ Basketball team beat the North High Saxons Wednesday night at North with a score of 51- 44.

The Warriors got off to a good start in the game. In the first quarter, they were able to create a big offensive run, displaying their strong aggressiveness, getting up to a nineteen-point lead. The Warriors  kept their lead throughout the game, battling hard against a team that recently beat them. Warrior Head Coach, Neal Perlmutter, said that the game against the Saxons, “was probably our best game of the year. We executed really well against their defense and were able to hold them off.”

About three weeks ago, the Saxons played at West High and beat the Warriors 70 – 69 in overtime. The game was extremely close and came down to plays in the final seconds of the game. As Varsity forward Justin Hight (10) said, “It was a pretty good win since we were able to give them payback in their own home court.” He also went on to say that, “I heard that West has never beaten North at their home court in twelve years, so this is the first time we have done so in twelve years.”

Although the Saxons went on their own offensive run late in the fourth quarter, the Warriors still managed to hold off their lead. Varsity guard Brandon Thomas (11) said, “Everyone pitched in and everybody contributed. We were all able to score, and our offense got us to the glass even though they are a big team.” He also said that with this win, he hopes that West can start a winning streak. Their next game is against Centennial this Friday. With their top tier performance against North, they hope to be able to use their momentum to qualify for the CIF playoffs.
