Perfect Ten

The West High Warriors football team took its tenth win of the regular season on November 7th, 2014 against Torrance. The Warriors vied for their flawless record and held on to beat Torrance with a final score of 31-29. The win qualified the team for CIF playoffs and sealed its flawless record of 10-0.

   Justin Dawson (11) described the game as,“extremely close because Torrance played well.” He continued by saying,” The defense was able to hold on and secure the win.” Although the game was close, the Warriors started off strong when they scored 17 points in the first quarter. Brett Ojiyi (12), the running back, led the offense. Torrance fought back and by the third quarter the Warriors only led with a score of 24-16. In the final quarter Torrance scored 13 points, but could not close the deficit, because West scored a touchdown to secure the victory.

When asked about the teams record John Giradini (11) commented, “ We worked hard really hard during the preseason and these wins were well deserved.” West’s hard work paid off and is ranked within the top 25 football teams in Southern California according to the Los Angeles Times.

West’s next game is against Santa Monica on Friday November 14th in the CIF Southern Section High School Playoffs. Bobby Fujioka (11), a cornerback and wide receiver said,” I think we can win long as we work hard and study films of Santa Monica’s games.” The team is looking extremely strong and expects to take the CIF championship.
