The red carpet rolls out, the paparazzi swarm the scene, and lights flash everywhere as crazed fans scream the names of their favorite artists. Welcome to the European Music Awards. With a variety of performances and the red-carpet fashion, this is not some ordinary event. As the European Music Awards began, people everywhere gathered around their televisions to watch their favorite stars receive commending awards.
On November 9, 2013, MTV’s European Music Awards took place. The show was held in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, with performances by Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, and Miley Cyrus. The event also featured singer Ellie Goulding and actor Will Ferrell. Austin Olson (11) added his opinion of the performances, “My favorite part of the ceremony was Imagine Dragons’ performance of ‘Radioactive’. The energy that they brought to the stage was electrifying and they managed to get every single person in the building to sing along.”
On the other hand, Alanna Bledman (10) felt that “it wasn’t that memorable. Nothing too interesting happened, except for Miley Cyrus’s [performance]. Miley Cyrus sometimes just does too much.” Pansy Tran (12) also felt that the show was just mediocre, “I thought that the performances were pretty long compared to the normal MTV award shows.” The event attempted to incorporate other entertaining performances besides the actual award presentations in order to reach out to a larger crowd.
The EMA’s brought together artists of different colors, creating an exhilarating atmosphere for the viewers. This year set a high scale for next year’s EMA’s in the Scottish city of Glasgow.
